Dr. Chu and his collaborators discovered five chemotherapeutic agents (see structures below) against cancer, AIDS, shingles and hepatitis B virus, out of which three compounds are currently undergoing clinical trials and two are at the preclinical stage.

      L-FMAU (Clevudine): It has been marketed in S. Korea and Philippine since 2007 and 2010, respectively and is currently undergoing phase III clinical trials in China and other countries.

                              DAPD (Amdoxovir): A dual antiviral agent for AIDS and hepatitis B virus (HBV) is currently undergoing Phase II clinical trials as an anti-HIV agent.

                              L-OddC (Troxicitabine): It has been undergoing the Phase II clinical trials as an anticancer agent against various forms of cancer.

      FMCA: It has been discovered as an anti-viral agent against drug resistant HBV.

      L-BHDU: It has been discovered as an anti-shingles agent and is undergoing preclinical studies.
